the beginning of a proud tradition that would
see a Maryland Band Program grow from
a single unit one century ago to 12 bands
encompassing nearly 600 members today.

Musical Ambassadors of Maryland: A Centennial Celebration.

The Book:
The University of Maryland Bands is celebrating its Centennial, and you have the opportunity to read about its rich history through a limited-edition, hard-cover book, Musical Ambassadors of Maryland: A Centennial Celebration, to be published Spring 2009. The lavishly illustrated book features historical artifacts and photographs from University Archives and other sources coupled with a narrative that portrays the band’s development—both pitfalls and promises.

Songbook and Companion CD:
The 40-page wire-bound songbook, The Legacy of Maryland Music, includes 18 of Maryland’s best-loved tunes down through the century, arranged for piano.  A sampling—“Maryland Fight Song,” “Victory Song,” “The Old Stone Wishing Well,” “Maryland, My Maryland” and “Hail! Alma Mater.”

Companion CD showcases the “Mighty Sound of Maryland” performing songs from the songbook and more.
